The 4 Tones

Don't call your Mom "mā" a Horse "mǎ", silly!

In Mandarin Chinese, there are many words that sound similar, and it can get confusing! This is why it's super important to use the correct the tone when speaking.

1st tone: a high, flat sound.
2nd tone: sounds like a question.
3rd tone: starts mid-range, falls down & goes up.
4th tone: starts high then goes down.
